Universal background checks for ammunition pushed by House Democrats
House Democrats quietly tucked into a big spending bill a provision to create a so-called universal background check for ammunition purchases.
This means that to buy ammunition from a licensed dealer – or a private sale – you would have to get the same FBI background check as you do to buy a gun. A gun-rights group and a Republican member of the committee are trying to stop it.
The provision is hidden in the Democrats’ report that accompanies the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies appropriations bill for 2023. Gun Owners of America (GOA) sent an alert to Congress to warn that if the bill gets passed as written, it infringes on Second Amendment rights.
Tokyo is creating strategic stocks of fuel and ammunition. Japan will expand fuel and ammunition storage facilities on the Nansei Islands. According to the Japanese leaders, the country is preparing for a potential military conflict in the Taiwan Strait. It is possible that the stocks of weapons can be used to supply the Taiwanese army during hostilities. To protect Japan, it is important for us to have not only equipment, such as planes and ships, but also enough ammunition for them. We will radically strengthen the defense capabilities we need, including our ability to deploy sustainably and flexibly - Japanese Defense Minister Hamada Yasukazu.
NEW YORK CITY TO USE PENSION FUND INVESTMENTS TO PUSH MASTERCARD AND AMERICAN EXPRESS TO FLAG GUN SALES
Elected officials in New York City and three of the city’s pension funds are pushing credit card providers American Express and Mastercard to start tracking spending on firearms, in an effort to catch suspicious sales.
About 50 state lawmakers in New York wrote a letter to Mastercard and American Express asking them to start coding sales of firearms and ammunition under a special category so that law enforcement can easily track these sales.

JUST IN - BIDEN ADMIN TO ANNOUNCE A $1 BILLION WEAPONS PACKAGE FOR UKRAINE, THE SINGLE LARGEST SO FAR
Officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that Biden had not yet signed the next weapons package and cautioned that the value and content can change before it's signed. However, if signed in its current form, it would include munitions for HIMARS, NASAMS surface-to-air missile system ammunition and as many as 50 M113 armored medical transports.
The new package would be funded under the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA), in which the president can authorize the transfer of articles and services from U.S. stocks without congressional approval in response to an "emergency."
