The amount of weapons and explosives found in civilian homes in southern Lebanon indicates that Hezbollah was preparing for a long war. We discovered mostly weapons from Iran and Russia, but there were also a significant number of American and Israeli weapons. Everything they managed to smuggle into Lebanon was stored there. For the past decade, we were told that Israel was attacking arms shipments, but it turns out we only managed to thwart about 30 percent of the attempts. Seventy percent of the smuggling efforts were successful.

Think about how many soldiers we would need in Lebanon and how long it would take to destroy all of this. Hezbollah fulfilled the Ayatollahs’ wish to turn Lebanon into an Iranian military frontline against Israel. Apart from a few Christian and Druze villages, all of southern Lebanon’s towns and villages—right under the nose of UNIFIL—have turned into one large terror base, both above and below ground.
