Chickens, like all modern birds, are direct descendants of dinosaurs, particularly a group of two-legged, meat-eating dinosaurs known as theropods, which included the famous Tyrannosaurus rex. Over millions of years, evolutionary changes gradually transformed these large, fierce creatures into smaller, feathered animals. The fossil record shows a clear link between birds and dinosaurs, with shared characteristics such as hollow bones, three-toed limbs, and even early forms of feathers. In fact, scientists have discovered fossils of feathered dinosaurs, further supporting this connection. Though chickens today are much smaller and less intimidating than their prehistoric relatives, they still carry many of the traits passed down through their evolutionary history.
