The Russian Foreign Ministry says that Russia warns Ukraine, Moldova and NATO against attacking Transnistria. Russia will protect the population and its soldiers. An attack on Transnistria will be interpreted as an attack on Russia itself.
Transnistria, officially the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, is a pro Russian unrecognised breakaway state that is internationally recognised as a part of Moldova.

Poland is under enormous pressure, and this morning it announced that it had blocked its border crossings with the Russian Kaliningrad region with "defensive measures". The pictures here were published by the Polish government. Poland fears that a Russian attack will be launched from there towards nearby Warsaw.
Residents have already started fleeing in Moldova, fearing an imminent Russian attack, and the tension is high there as well.

A Ukrainian attack on Transnistria makes sense to a certain degree:

-Small amount of Russian soldiers with zero supply lines to Russian forces. Ukraine would be able to show a decisive victory.
-Would make the claim Russia was attacking or preparing to attack Moldova, thereby saving another country from “Russian aggression.”
-Any attempt to physically relieve or support the troops stationed there would force Russian aircraft and ships near Odessa where they could be taken out.
-Potential to capture Soviet era stockpiled munitions.

Potential downside would be causing Russia to escalate
